Cheri Barry on the Veterans Center Following Katrina, a mid town historical home was donated to the Key Chapter of the American Red Cross. This home dates back to the early 1900's and is located directly across the street from our current chapter facility. Upon receiving this donated home, it was evident that our community needed a new veteran’s affairs office for our veteran’s, old and new, active and inactive. Out of this need, and the passion for those who have served our country and protected our freedom, the Key Chapter Veteran’s Armed Forces Emergency Services Project was born. The Veteran’s Center houses our Veteran’s Officer and our Armed Forces Emergency Services Communicator, along with the available resources to meet . My vision includes big white rockers across the front porch, each being donated and dedicated to individual servicemen and women, who have served or who are presently serving our beloved country where you can order here. Each room in the Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services center will be adopted and dedicated by family and friends of our veterans. An active veteran’s officer will be supplied by the county with no expense to the Red Cross and free counseling services provided by Red Cross counselors and community professionals. This project will truly affect the lives, hearts and souls of so many in this community and the seven counties we serve. We also have a brick "walk way of honor" where bricks for veterans can be dedicated to indiviuals and addes to the "walk way of honor".
